The Thapar Group has been closely associated with the production and distribution of coal since its inception in 1929. Pre-nationalisation, the various Group companies, such as United Collieries Ltd., Oriental Coal Company Ltd., Bhora Kankanee Ltd., Tentulia Khas Company Ltd. etc., owned several coal mines across India, and were collectively considered the second largest producers of coal in the country. After nationalization of the coal mines, the Company focused its efforts on coal distribution and logistics, and reinforced its existing nation-wide infrastructure to provide a wide range of consumer oriented, coal related services.
Today, it is one of the largest coal handling companies in India. It deals with all major consumers of the fuel, both public and private sector, and are responsible for the entire set of logistical operations involved in the movement of coal through all rail and rail-cum-sea route and road route.
