Mr. Mahajan completed his undergraduate degree from
SD College in Punjab, and then went on to pursue a
post-graduate MSc (Hons.) degree in Physics from Punjab
University.
His professional life began in the academic world as Head
of the Physics Department of SD College, but he decided
instead to join the Thapar Group in 1965. He received his
initial training in the coalfields of Dhandbad, Jharia,
Asansol, Bhowra and Ramgarh, and then shifted to Head
Office, Calcutta, where he worked in the Produce Exchange
Department, which dealt with starch and paper sales.
After gaining some experience with the Internal Audit and
Accounts Departments, he began to oversee the operational
aspects of the branches, particularly the marketing of paper
and coal. Eventually, he was designated as In-Charge of the
Branches Department, charged with the responsibility of
managing the entire network of KCT branches across India.
Having spent many years in the business of coal handling,
Mr. Mahajan is a well-known figure in the industry. He was
also appointed as member of the Railway Users Consultative
Committees by the Ministry of Railways.
Mr. Mahajan is an accomplished golfer. Some of his other
interests include reading, watching Indian film and
listening to music. |
